The leaves are changing colors, the air is getting crisp and cool, all around us the harvest is coming in…yup, it looks like it’s time to freak out.
Usually, October in Upstate NY would have us changing out our summer clothes and preparing for winter, but this year it’s the other way around. On Oct. 1st we’ll be loading the family onto a jumbo jet and heading back to the tropics of Papua New Guinea!
For those who have ever undertaken a full-fledged family move, you can probably imagine pretty easily what that means for the state of our household right now, a week before we take off.
For those who haven’t experienced this, you can easily replicate the situation by dumping all of your possessions onto your living room floor and having your kids tear through everything as you try to organize it into piles.
Add to the fun the realization that you’re about to say goodbye to all of your family and friends, your favorite foods, your culture, and your language and you’ll pretty much have it figured out.
Needless to say, this isn’t our favorite part of the “missionary experience.” It is necessary though, and it will end up worth it in the end. This maternity leave has been a real blessing, and we’ve loved being back in the States, but we’re also really excited to get back over and move into the bush with our partners and the Iski people! There are amazing things in the works in Iski-land, and we’re so excited to be able to take part!
While we prepare for this move, you can be praising God with us for his generous provisions during these last weeks:
- We were able to get Griffin’s passport and entry visa without a hitch.
- We found out that we have a higher luggage allowance than we had previously thought.
- We already have a buyer lined up for our vehicle when we leave.
And, if you’d like to keep a few things in mind for prayer:
- Saying good-bye to family isn’t very fun.
- Packing/moving is stressful.
- Transitioning between cultures is hard, especially for the kids.
Thanks for caring!
